Hatsune Miku (Japanese: 初音ミク), sometimes called Miku Hatsune, is a popular, fan favorite character from the Vocaloid software voicebank developed by Crypton Future Media and its official moe anthropomorph, a 15-year-old teenage girl with long, turquoise twintails. She uses Yamaha Corporation's Vocaloid 2, Vocaloid 3, and Vocaloid 4 singing synthesizing technologies. She also uses Crypton Future Media's Piapro Studio, a singing synthesizer VSTi Plugin. She was the second Vocaloid sold using the Vocaloid 2 engine and the first Japanese Vocaloid to use the Japanese version of the Vocaloid 2 engine. Her voice is modeled from Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita. Miku's personification has been marketed as a virtual idol and has performed at concerts onstage as an animated projection (rear cast projection on a specially coated glass screen).
The name of the character comes from merging the Japanese words for first (初, hatsu), sound (音, ne), and future (ミク, miku), thus meaning "the first sound of the future", referring to her position as the first of Crypton's "Character Vocal Series".
Hatsune Miku is a carefree and cheerful-hearted 15-year-old girl who is very good in singing. Altough, she is heroically poupular, she attends a lot of good things with her good friends like KAITO and other Vocaloids, who have been friendly to her.
Megurine Luka (巡音ルカ) was the first VOCALOID designed to fully support producing vocals in both Japanese and English, and the first addition to the Character Vocal Series software line characterized as an adult.
Her surname combines "Meguri" (巡, circulate or around) and "Ne" (音, sound), while the name "Luka" invokes the homophonous pronunciations of 流 (ru, flow), 歌 (ka, song) and 香 (ka, scent), thus making: "songs to all around the world as scent spreads."
Her name is based on her concept, which is "travelling sound", meaning words which are translated from one language to another.
Her codename of "CV03" means "Character Voice 03".
